Georgia requires out-of-state telehealth physicians to arrange local coverage and a separate GA DEA registration for controlled substances
Summary
Georgia requires out-of-state physicians providing telehealth to have an arrangement with a local physician who has admitting privileges or a local hospitalist. To prescribe controlled substances, providers must also obtain a separate Georgia DEA registration.
Per CCHP's Georgia page, out-of-state physicians must maintain an arrangement with a local physician who has admitting privileges or a local hospitalist, and any practitioner prescribing controlled substances must obtain a separate DEA registration in each state where they prescribe, including Georgia. These requirements add logistical and regulatory barriers for out-of-state telehealth physicians, especially those managing patients who need controlled-substance prescriptions.
